Is it really free?
Yes. The free tier is 100% in-browser — no signup, no server. Paste a script, render kinetic captions, narrate with the built-in browser voice or your own audio file, and export. Optional paid extras (AI scripts via GLM, studio voice via ElevenLabs) use your own API keys.
Why kinetic typography over stock footage?
Generic AI stock clips read as slop and get scrolled. Animating your actual words keeps attention, works silent, and looks intentional. ShortForge renders everything live on a canvas so it's genuinely your video, not a stitched template.
Where do my API keys go?
Into your browser only. They're sent straight to the official z.ai / ElevenLabs endpoints from your machine and stored locally so you don't re-paste. We have no server and never see them.
What about the export format?
The browser's MediaRecorder captures the live canvas (plus audio, if loaded) to a 1080×1920 WebM. That uploads fine almost everywhere; convert to MP4 in CapCut or any free tool if a platform is picky.
